Flexibility Specialist

Course Overview

ACE .3 | NASM .5 | NFPT .5

This seminar will go over several different stretching methods and teach the attendees how and when to apply them. It will explain the pros and cons of each method. This seminar will also cover the importance and techniques of dynamic stretching and warm up exercises; explain why dynamic stretching is so important for high-level performance verses several other methods of stretching, when they should be used, and their effects on the body.

Course Objectives

  1. The different types of stretching, and the various movements for each body part
  2. To provide attendees with detailed understanding of how to perform facilitated stretching incorporating breathing techniques on their clients. Attendees will also learn why it its so important to have a full range of motion, but also the affects of overstretching.
  3. This seminar will cover detailed techniques on how to perform facilitated stretches with clients for each muscle group.
  4. This course will explain how motor control affects the nervous system
  5. To provide attendees with detailed understanding of what dynamic stretching is, why it is important before a workout or playing a sport,
  6. To provide attendees with the knowledge of various methods of stretching, and the times they should be performed, which dynamic stretches are better for specific sports or types of workouts.
  7. Why static stretching has negative muscular effects pre-workout or before playing a sport

Lesson Plan

Facilitated Stretching Techniques

  1. Attendees will watch a PowerPoint presentation of various facilitated stretches
  2. Attendees will be given a handout that includes the pictures and detailed description of these stretches.

After each slide is read, the instructor will demonstrate the stretch on an attendee.

Attendees will:

  • Need to correctly demonstrate every stretch on each other.
  • Correctly cue any breathing techniques.
  • Explain and show where each barrier is
  • Demonstrate how to hold each body part being stretched. Applying force where needed and supporting the joints correctly.
  • Identify signs of over stretching

Dynamic Stretching

  • Attendees will watch a PowerPoint presentation of the specific dynamic stretches, which will show and explain the proper way they should be performed. The instructor will also explain why certain exercises are more beneficial for specific sports (ex. Golf vs. soccer).
  • Attendees will be shown by the instructor the various methods of dynamic stretches and which muscle group they have effect on.
  • Attendees will demonstrate each stretch and explain how to do it
  • Attendees will explain the progression of each stretch
  • Attendees will be given a handout that includes the pictures and detailed descriptions that correspond to the Powerpoint presentation

There will be a multiple choice quiz and group interaction at the end of the class.

Functional Movement Evaluation, Anatomy, and Exercise Prescription

Course Overview

Study Materials
  1. functional_eval_V2.pdf

The objectives for this seminar are to provide attendees with an in-depth understanding of functional anatomy and how it affects our everyday movement patterns. Attendees will also learn common muscoskeletal dysfunction and compensation patterns, pathological movement patterns and their effects on human movement and pain. Functional dynamic muscular evaluations will be demonstrated and explained to help attendees identify compensatory patterns and possible injury causes that result from movement impairment syndromes. The third component of the seminar is teaching proper exercise selection when facing kinetic chain dysfunction and movement impairment syndromes. Also covered will be dynamic muscular evaluations, basic muscle testing and an introduction to fascial chain systems.

Course Objectives

  1. To provide the attendees with a detailed and complete understand of functional anatomy.
  2. To provide the attendees with functional dynamic muscular evaluations and an understanding of how to perform these evaluations so that they may be better suited to recognize movement impairment syndromes in their clients.
  3. To provide the attendees with knowledge of proven strength training and rehabilitation methods so that they may be prepared to write and design programs when their clients display insufficiency.

Lesson Plan

Functional Anatomy

  1. Attendees will be given a handout that includes a picture of the specific muscle to be studied with a brief analysis of the muscle action and its implications in pain and movement dysfunction
  2. After each slide is read, the instructors will then describe in-depth the muscles primary actions and explain some of the common insufficiencies that occur if the muscle is inhibited or tight. This will be done until every major muscle of the upper and lower body has been covered.
  3. Introduction to fascial chain systems.

Functional Dynamic Muscular Evaluations

  1. Attendees will be given a handout that includes pictures and descriptions of each evaluation. They will then watch a power point presentation of this specific test.
  2. The instructors will then use an attendee as an example to show a live presentation of the test.
  3. Possible causes of muscular dysfunction and testing errors will be discussed.
  4. Demonstration of basic muscle testing.

Program Design

  1. Lastly, the attendees will view examples of programs that are aimed to deal with the evaluation findings. The instructors will critically examine the programs and point out strength and weaknesses of each program.
  2. In addition, suggestions of possible exercises to correct muscular imbalances will be discussed and demonstrated so that the attendees may use these exercises immediately.

Principles of Core Training and Common Gym Exercises Exposed

Course Overview

This course will explain the function anatomy of the core including the deep muscle structures.

This course will also cover the importance of testing for core strength and various techniques of training the core dynamically through multi-planar movements, challenging the center of gravity, and through isometric exercises.

This course will explain exercises that should be avoided completely and exercises that are good, but are often done incorrectly and how to make sure that they are done correctly to avoid injury.

This course will review the key points of why some exercises should be avoided and an alternative to that exercise.

We will also explain the negative effects that braces have on muscular development, how they can cause injury, and why so many people use them.

Course Objectives

  • The different types of core exercises, and the various movements using medicine balls, balance boards, foam rollers, etc. to achieve maximum results.
  • To provide attendees with a general understanding of how to perform proper functional core training by incorporating stability techniques with their clients as opposed to traditional floor exercises.
  • Attendees will also learn why it its so important to have core strength and trunk stability to maximize performance and prevent injury during daily activities and sports.
  • How to perform core stability tests on clients to check for core endurance and stability.
  • How a weak core contributes to poor stability and inhibits proper limb movements causing muscle imbalances in the kinetic chain.
  • Provide knowledge of the various exercises that are harmful and the ones that are good, but often misused.
  • Trainers will also learn why it its so important to have a detailed understanding of how achieve proper form by pointing out mistakes that people often make.
  • To provide an understanding of how braces often contribute to injuries, cause muscle weaknesses and imbalances in the kinetic chain, and decrease the training effect.

Lesson Plan

  1. Attendees will read an online PowerPoint presentation about the anatomy, importance, and testing of the core. There will be pictures and explanations where necessary.
  2. Trainers will study a PowerPoint presentation showing which exercises are not recommended and why, the exercises that are good, but often done incorrectly, and why wearing a brace can negatively affect your training.
  3. Trainers are expected to print out exercises and actually practice them.
  4. There will be a multiple choice quiz. A grade of 75% or greater to pass.
